E-Waste Drive Hosted by Green Team
By Sterre Schlosser
From December 2nd until January 15th, ISA’s Green Team is hosting an E-Waste Drive. E-waste refers to any item with a plug, battery, or power cord that is no longer wanted or working. The Green Team encourages students, staff, and parents to drop off e-waste at the designated drop-off location in the Foyer. Examples of e-waste include, but are not limited to, batteries, remotes, radios, monitors, and keyboards. A comprehensive list of e-waste items can be found at the bottom of this article.
Ms Lawson, the Green Team’s supervisor, told me that the drive’s focus was “properly disposing of hazardous materials because there’s lots of chemicals inside of e-waste which can leak into soil, water, and the atmosphere”.
I spoke with Ethan Chassin, the President of the Green Team. He joined the Green Team in 9th grade, allowing him to learn about “the role of the Green Team at ISA”. Going into the year, Ethan said a focus was “getting in touch with the student body a little bit more through a greater physical representation of the Green Team”. He also told me that while the e-waste drive is “their larger event”, they also plan on hosting “the 12 days of Green Team”, including “social media posts and further cafeteria activities”.
I also talked with Freddy Tanz, the Green Team’s project manager. He told me he was excited to “re-establish the tradition” of the e-waste drive, which had been an event in previous years. Freddy told us that on the first day of the drive, they had a table set up in the cafeteria for “anyone who had questions”; however, he also mentioned that they could still answer questions via email (greenteam@isa.nl).
The Green Team is a club open to all students. If interested, contact Mary Lawson at mlawson@isa.nl for more information. Otherwise, attend one of their meetings, which happen every Thursday at 15:45 in room 075.
