Valentine’s Day Around the World

By Zoe Herrmann

T-minus 0 days until Valentine's Day!

What are you doing this Valentine's Day?

Are you with your family?

Or maybe even out with your loved one! Well Many of you may be wondering why Valentine's day is such a big deal. But have you ever wondered what other cultures do for this day? Is it the same everywhere-sure, here it’s Valentine's day but what about everywhere else? What do they do on February 14th?

Many parts of the world celebrate Valentine’s day, but in some cultures, this day looks a lot different than ours. For example, Finnish people celebrate Friendship day on Valentine’s day, which is a day where you show appreciation to your friends and family.

But what do other cultures do?

Valentine’s can look very different, depending on where you are.

There are so many unique special celebrations that we all celebrate, and there are many things other cultures do: In Ghana, Valentine's Day is called ‘National Chocolate Day’. Where they eat: you guessed it, a lot of chocolate! In the Philippines they call it ‘A Gala event.’

There is a big event that is sponsored by the government, I’m sure that’s great fun! In Wales they celebrate Valentine’s Day on a whole different day and month! In Wales, on January 25th, there is the Day of San Dwynwen, which is just like Valentine’s Day, but just at a different time.

There is so much to do and see, hopefully one day you attend maybe one of these countries Valentines Day, so you can see how much there is to celebrate! But you don’t just have to show appreciation to your friends and family on Valentine’s Day, you can show your appreciation every single day.

Be sure to comment down below what you do for Valentine’s day!

Happy Valentine's Day!
